Almost finished with HIGH SCHOOL!

So i ahven’t blogged in probably three/four months now so i figured it was due time that i did. i doubt anyone ever reads this but hey! i’m bored and in speech class. my friend shantelle and i are doing a debate speech about printing limits at school.. im against and she is for — mainly because just recently i was told i am 95 pages OVER the limit!! well good grief faculty.. i wouldn’t have minded KNOWING when i’ve REACHED the limit.. not when i’m OVER. wow.. yeah i was a little bit frustrated. seriously. i have classes that require alot of papers so what… i’m just supposed to NOT print them…

lol earlier in speech i stole my teachers mouse to his computer… i threw it in my purse and it started moving and clicking on his screen so he knew someone had it. lol then i took itout and started just randomly clicking all over and i guess i closed everything onhis computer.. lol no worries tho — he was laughing so i didn’t get in trouble

anyways now… its april what.. 27?  yeah i have 18 days left in high school. hallelujah! so sick of this place, ready for college and playing college ball. … soccer is going on right now. we’re 5 -1 right now, lost to spencer on a crappy unlucky corner kick.. i think we’ll do pretty well this year… Heelan will be tough tho – always are.

anyways i hope you have a great day wehrever you are and whatever your agenda is — go chicago cubs! woo!

p.s. here are the cleats i bought… don’t mean to dissapoint anyone but they aren’t any that i had pictured before NEYDCA3IITHECAS9RXCACAC1X3ZJCAIFGZF5CADKH1CMCAG9Q57ICAEK1PFKCAAQ1BSGCA3SRIQECAUSRZ04CAZCOGKRCA5V3F4ICANMO704CA1QIBUSCAB2EJA9CA2MPXHMCAFS158UCAKI0P0GCA0SPQ47

Thanksgiving Countdown!!

In light of this Thanksgiving holiday, our teacher asked us to write a post about the top 10 things we are thankful for–here goes!

1. Easy — family!! I am thankful for my three little sisters, despite how annoying they can get sometimes, my parents, and my distant family. I love spending time with all of my cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents in Chicago during the holidays — even though I am 9 hours away from my house, they make me feel like I am home when I am with them.

2. Another given–friends. I have recently just made a handful of new friends from my all-star volleyball game this past weekend. They are from all over the state of Iowa — we all share a common bond — the love of volleyball.. but we also got to actually know  each other.. not just what position we play. Of course, I am also thankful for the friends I have here. They have always been there for me through my ups and downs and no one will ever replace any one of them. They are all different and unique — just perfect!

3. I am thankful for sports… haha. During Thanksgiving there is an upgrade in food consumption and it is good that I am in sports or I would probably gain 50 pounds!! I also love them for the competitiveness of them, my teammates (friends!) and everything else…

4. Umm… Music is on the list too. Music just helps me sort out my emotions I guess? I don’t really know how to explain it… I just love music. I love searching for new songs, finding songs that fit my mood, that remind me of someone or something or an event… I just love music!

5. Orange sweat pants… haha… they are the comfiest pants I own and if I could- I would wear them 24/7. .. I guess I can stick the whole “clothes” category under this too

6. literature.. wow that sounds so dumb!! lets go with books instead… the twilight series is what I am tackling right now.. but there are so many good ones out there! Harlan Coban books… Nicholas Sparks… the list goes on

7. hmm… i’m thankful for Sunday Night Pizza… every sunday my family and my best pal Vanna and her family go to either my house or theirs… we have supper together… it started out as pizza but now we have whatever we feel like making! … Great food, awesome company… slice of heaven

8. Food!! — home made food, fast food, dine in restaurant food, junk food, anything! Even school lunch meals.. there aren’t too many foods I can name that I do NOT like… I just had a brownie that Abby Heynen gave me… it was fantastic!

9. I’m thankful for Carly and Katie for trying to help me figure out what I am thankful for… even tho they were no help at all!

10. last but certainly not least!! My Savior Jesus Christ… for dying on the cross and saving me and giving me hope and a future… without Him I wouldn’t be here today!

Pictures are on the way yet…

state09This weekend… my volleyball season came to a crashing hault. We lost to our biggest rival, Sheldon, in four games in the second round of state tourney play. Wow, not what I had planned. Not only was this the end of the volleyball season for me, but also the end of my high school volleyball career – probably one of the most heart breaking moments I’ve had to go through in high school. But I guess it’s one of many “lasts” I’m going to go through this year. … Anyways… My question for everyone out there is Have you ever had to go through something disappointing — but then after all was finished.. something good came out of the situation? I am still waiting to figure out what the good in losing to Sheldon is.. but I’m sure there’s got to be something. Maybe its a reminder to always be humble… thats all  I’ve got for now. And I need to remind myself that no matter what I  have planned… if it’s not part of God’s plan, then it just isn’t meant to be.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

This is one of my favorite poems by Robert Frost… I believe that it talks about being original… not following the crowd… taking the road less taken.

Digital Footprints~

*Blogging Challenge Week 8*

What makes a positive digital footprint? ..  I suppose a good digital footprint has good grammar and spelling just in case an employer checks it out.. Maybe I should work on that.. and I don’t think its a very good idea for underage students/people to “brag” about some crazy parties they’ve been to with pictures posted in blogs/facebook etc with beer in the picture… I also believe updating blogs is good even though life gets a little busy sometimes.

Aside from college stuff and maybe buying/selling stuff over the internet should you use your real name.. I use my e-mail a lot tho and it hasn’t caused too many troubles for me, and i don’t think that having a picture of yourself up isn’t a big deal either as long as its appropriate

Parents and teachers are probably responsible for showing us .. but thats a question that could be answered differently with different opinions i guess

name, email, phone number, birthday

I would say my digital footprint is a positive one. I don’t have any bad language or inappropriate pictures on any sites. Usually i visit my facebook account almost daily but i can’t say i really “update” it. So maybe i should work on that… i also struggle with posting blogs on here unless its an assignment. On the internet i am most usually in sports articles that have been put online. I was surprised to find out that i was linked to a blog of my aunt who lives in chicago and i found a picture of abby heynen and i from state volleyball last year!

Workin for the Weekend … *Waitin for the Weekend*

Oh brother… I’m sitting in study hall and its Thursday.. last day of the school week for me because i have a college visit tomorrow.. staying overnight there tonight! I could really go for a nap tho… anyone else out there have a problem with procrastinating? this girl does! .. i can’t wait for the weekend – we have our third round of regionals for volleyball and then i’m going to see paranormal activities with some friends — i hear that movie is really scary but i won’t believe it till i see it! cross country state is on saturday – good luck tim and mariah!  … thats all for now — TGIF … tomorrow.

Growin up… its a college thing…

Hhere I sit between Tasha and Kim in my 7th period study hall… just saying…you’re probably going to get super bored with this post… but just push through it – it will be OK.

Does anyone else feel like you’re reminded every day from teachers, parents, the principal etc… that we have to get going with applying and figuring out which college we’re  going to go to? Their constant reminders get a little old sometimes.  I feel like there’s so many different things to think about when trying to figure out which college to go to. I’ve made a fairly thorough list of the principles which i will consider-here’s just one-…There is location…i want to be in a decent area… i could go to a college in the mountains or by the ocean or in the desert! As far as location goes… “do you want to be closer or further from home?” Piece of cake for me! I want to go to a college that isn’t too close but yet I don’t want to be too far away either. Two of my closer college choices are Dordt and Northwestern; Simpson, my third choice, is farther away then both Dordt and Northwestern; it’s four hours away in Indianola. They’re all good colleges… except the fact that two of them are much closer to home. Naturally, my parents want me to stay close… but I just want to say, “Loosen up! I am all ready to move out.. so take a deep breath and let me go.” – Sometimes i think they are convinced that if i would go to a bigger state college i’ll become a member of some illicit drug ring.. haha Now come on Mom and Dad… I’m a big girl, I can take care of myself 😛 I mean really … whose choice is it going to be? Mine or the parens? I know they are just trying to lead me in what they think is the right direction but in the end -the choice should be mine. right?

anyone worrying about getting accepted into college? I swear Its an everyday thought of mine, when I’m at school in class, lunch, during practice…at home, laying in bed-every concious moment. I have already applied to Dordt and Northwestern. Those two were always among my top choices when it came to picking out colleges. One of the things I like about NW is that there are less people from Western (my high school) that go there; I know for a fact that there is a fewer number of volleyball players that attend NW that have played at WC.  It almost seems like other colleges looking at western vball girls are led to believe that the only college we will go to is dordt — which is a lie. For crying out loud – Nancy (Metcalf) Meendering played at Nebraska and plays on the olympic team!!!

Ugh.. college. The choice you make about where you are going to go is going to affect your whole life. I can’t believe after this coming May I will begin my descent to adulthood… I say descent because as a child we always we’re lifted up.. a “high” chair, “booster” seat, carried around.. always safe in the arms of parents.. well now its time to be set down. We might lose our way every once in a while, but that is just another part of growin up! … Yay growin up… drinking coffee… wearing nice clothes.. counting calories (guess i won’t be able to have that triple chocolate ice cream and brownie dessert–…breathe…i’m sure that a strawberry yogurt tastes JUST as good…not) and trying to keep a healthy conscience all the while. Wow..All this talk about growing up has elicited mixed feelings from me; the effect of all the many changes of growing up causes me to get a little nervous… or should i say anxious-excited?  one of its pro’s is obviously the new freedoms growing up brings.

All-in-All…I hope i can say I threw my college grad cap in the air and know i made the right decisions…

I think i need a little nap… some peace of mind..Who’s with me? 🙂

**In all honesty, this blog was assigned by my teacher Mrs. De Groot. We had to try and use as many commonly mixed up words as we could — we had a list and i used them all — thumbs up!**

Mrs. De Groot has officially assigned our college comp. class to read an article about plagiarizing/cheating and then to summarize/respond to it. Well.. In this article it talks about why students cheat and the use of computers in plagiarizing. One opinion that was stated in this article was that the use of internet did not increase the numbers of students who cheat, but it gives the students who cheat often a wider variety of ways to [cheat].

I believe that having the internet and knowing my way around it pretty well does have its temptations when it comes to writing papers. People are busy, I know that first hand, and sometimes when they don’t have enough time to sit down and write an essay or paper  – they cheat. When a teacher doesn’t require siting a source… its so easy to plagiarize without even thinking about it. At least thats my opinion. Yeah we get taught whats right and wrong in grade school but sometimes its hard to distinguish between what we “think” is our own and what really is someone elses.
